Jack London: Twentieth-Century Man (working title)
is a feature-length documentary film about one of America’s
most colorful, popular and misunderstood writers, Jack
London. Through the lens of London’s adventuresome life,
autobiographical writing and voluminous
correspondence, Jack London:
Twentieth-Century Man will explore the
relationship between literature, philosophy and biology in
the Progressive Era and the subsequent evolution of racial,
social and cultural attitudes in the early Twentieth
Century.

This will be the first major documentary film about Jack
London, his work and his times. The film is aiming for
broadcast on public television on the American
Experience series and will
be distributed on DVD to libraries, museums, universities
and secondary schools. The project will be designed for use
as a complement to museum exhibitions about Jack London, as
well as public readings of his works.
